YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Further DNA Paternity Testing Information

A legal paternity test from Cellmark is a conclusive way to establish if a man is or is not the biological father of a child. Legal paternity testing may be required for a number of reasons:

  1. To confirm a child's paternity - for personal reasons
  2. When seeking legal custody of a child
  3. Amending a child's birth certificate
  4. In response to a claim regarding child maintenance

In the testing laboratory our scientists test DNA samples with up to 24 ‘markers’ to analyse the relationship of an alleged father and a child. This produces extremely accurate results which will either exclude the man from paternity with 100% certainty or will indicate a paternal relationship with a very high level of confidence - usually in excess of 99.9999%. Including a sample from the child’s mother is always recommended to ensure the most conclusive result.

When you choose Cellmark you can be sure your paternity test will be carried out with the care, accuracy and precision it deserves. Every test is carried out twice using the latest DNA profiling technology to provide certainty, with accurate, high quality and reliable relationship analysis.

Our standard court approved DNA paternity testing charges are £324 +VAT for up to 3 individuals (e.g Mother/Father/Child or Father/Child/Child) and then £133 +VAT per additional person.

Our testing prices include the following - as standard:

  • All sampling kits and the cost of sending them to UK sampling locations.
  • Pre-paid return envelopes to safely transport the samples to our laboratory.
  • The cost of testing the samples once they have been received at our laboratory.
  • Our standard 'Next Day' turn around time.
  • The cost of producing and delivering the final paternity test results report.
  • Our advice service for the duration of the case accessible via email, Freephone and our web Chat service.

Please note, in addition to the DNA testing cost, you will also need to pay to have the DNA samples taken by an independent sample collector. Our customer services team can provide full details on how the sampling process works and the costs involved.

  1. Register your DNA relationship testing requirements by phone or online.
  2. We'll send sample collection kits to your chosen independent sampler.
  3. On return of all the DNA test kits we immediately begin testing.
  4. We will issue your test results report the next working day* - at no extra cost.

* Over 90% of our DNA testing reports are issued the next working day

INDEPENDENT ADVICE

Should I get a paternity test?

The decision to have a paternity test should not be taken lightly. We urge you to consider all the parties involved and to decide the best course of action, particularly for the child in question. As the results of a paternity test can sometimes be unexpected and the implications far reaching we recommend that you discuss the issues and possible outcomes with a third party, either a friend or family member or an independent advice service.
