The Litholink Kidney Stone Programme.
Litholink, a LabCorp subsidiary, has developed a programmatic approach to comprehensively treat kidney stone disease. Using this approach, we are able to reduce the rate of kidney stone recurrence up to 80% (Data from Litholink US medical practices).
Metabolic testing is the general term that describes all the tests we run here within our laboratory. When you complete a urine collection and send your sample(s) back to us, we will perform a number of tests and measurements on your urine to determine exactly why you are forming kidney stones. We report the results on over thirty different measurements back to your physician in order to assist them in determining the best prevention treatment for you.
Once a person has a kidney stone, the risk of forming another stone is high. Physicians must determine the underlying causes of kidney stone formation in order to prevent future stones from occurring. Your Litholink testing will provide your physician with the highest quality results possible and help prevent kidney stones from ever reoccurring.
Our program is designed to be both effective and easy!
Your patients complete a simple at-home urine collection. The samples we collect from them will provide an accurate picture of the way they live, eat and drink from day to day.
Litholink then analyzes their urine to determine why you are making kidney stones and sends you a comprehensive report on your patient.
Based on your test results, you can prescribe a customized treatment plan that could include increased fluids, changes in diet, and/or medications.
Follow-up testing is a critical step in the path towards stone prevention. Follow-up testing ensures that treatment is working. Generally the first follow-up test is scheduled two months after beginning treatment. Since stone prevention is a process, and our body chemistries change as we age, annual follow-up testing is important to ensure the treatment plan is still working for your patient.
